You might noticed that I’ve been in the Maldives last December where I stayed at the One & Only Reethi Rah together with my sister Sylvia. It’s been our last trip in December – and what can I say? It’s been absolutely breathtaking. You’d be hard pressed to find any location as beautiful and secluded as the One & Only Reethi Rah.
A Dreamy Vacation Amidst the South Asian Sea
Vacationing to the Maldives has always been a dream of mine and last December 2016, I finally realised it. My sister and I planed the trip to the Maldives for eight days, three of which we spent at the One & Only Reethi Rah. The highly recommendable holiday resort has beach and water villas, we stayed at one of the water villas, which turned out to be a good idea. The mosquitoes are everywhere on the Maldives, however they rarely find their way across the water, so we have been relatively safe from the bloodsuckers.
Venturing to the Maldives from Hamburg, Germany, we traveled to Dubai first and later ventured to Male on the Maldives. An employee of the One & Only Reethi Rah was kind enough to pick us up at the airport and we took a breathtaking yacht to the hotel. The boat trip takes nearly an hour but the view across the blue and teal ocean is one of the most rewarding things I have seen in my life.
The One & Only Reethi Rah is probably the most beautiful holiday resort on the Maldives, it is very secluded, serene and a highly stylised and modern hotel. Modern decoration and state of the art furniture seamlessly blend in with the pristine and friendly service.
Combined with restaurants like the Botanica (which only recently opened and offers a wide variety of organic food), the One & Only Reethi Rah has truly been a home away from home.
With a location like that, it’s kind of hard to leave – yet for those restless souls, the resort offers bicycles with every villa (or buggies for those, who prefer motorised travel) to explore the island.
Vacation for the Soul
Of course, the One & Only Reethi Rah also offers a brilliant spa treatment and, honestly, the spa treatment really takes the cake. I was so relaxed, I even nodded off a little, while I was being massaged. The ubiquitous hammocks and the beautiful SPA garden only add to the relaxing experience.
Speaking of relaxing, the island is big enough to feel like you’ve been marooned in paradise. You can spend days without ever noticing any one of your fellow vacationers.
The one thing you definitely should go and see, though, is the fauna. I’ve ventured on the Turtle Adventure and went snorkeling, some 25 minutes off shore. In the middle of the Indian Ocean, our small group dove into the water and we were lucky enough to see the amazing sea turtles in their natural habitat. Even though, I have to admit, that the fruit bats who drew circles in the sky at dusk, were my favourites.
The One & Only Reethi Rah truly is a dream come true and feels like paradise, with all the modern accommodations you are used in your everyday life on top (i.e. power plugs and adapters, mosquito spay, …). And as if to bid us farewell, on our boat trip back to the airport, we even saw a few dolphins in the crystal clear water.
Beauty, That Will Haunt You
The One & Only Reethi Rah, I cannot stress this enough, is a paradise on Earth. You should absolutely go there, take your friends, take your family and go on a vacation you will remember for the rest of your lives.
It’s the perfect spot for weddings, summer vacation, a relaxing trip, or simply to take some time off – I would go there again, any time.
Some lucky nights, my dreams will take me there…
