October 3, 2017
I remember I woke up early on that day to get ready for the CHANEL SS18 Show. My very first Chanel Show. It still feels surreal writing this. Yes, I do need to pinch myself from time to time..I left the hotel around 09.40 am and arrived super punctual at 10.05 am. It wasn’t too crowded at that time so I went quickly into the location to find my seating. I was surprised by a speechless Show space and needed to walk around to keep this special moment.
Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director took his guests on a mystical destination for the Spring/ Summer 2018 collection. The Show took place once again at the Grand Palais in Paris, but the theme ( like every season) was unexpected and surprising.
The venue was spectacular. It was all about nature. I was starring with wide open eyes on the runway, all the greenery, the cliff from which waterfalls gushed into pools down below were breathtaking. Note: at the end of the show, the water flew back into the Paris sewer system and recycled into a source of energy, or to water fields in the Paris region.
Once I sat down, everything went super quick. As soon as the music began I got myself ready to catch all looks with my camera. It is Show time! The first look hits the runway – Kaia Gerber opened the Show and of course, she looked amazing!
Karl Lagerfeld never fails with his runway presentations. There was that chic grocery store, an airport terminal and a integrated space station at the Grand Palais with a gigantic rocket shop blasting off at the finale last season. My sister Sylvia wrote a great article about that, here.
The upcoming collection is going to be awesome. I spotted several pieces that fit perfectly into the typical Hamburg weather. Plastic thigh-high boots, rain bonnets, bag shells, dip-dyed messenger bags, logo traveler bags and many other were presented at the SS18 Ready-to-Wear Show.
The CHANEL SS18 Prêt-A-Porter Show Invitation.
The invite arrived two days before the Show, usually it provide a small hint that will spark a string of speculations, but this time I really had no idea what kind of show set and theme was planned. The more I was excited when I arrived at the Show venue to put each puzzle piece together.
